The statement, „putting something in the right light “is not just a saying. The Electronic Theatre Controls GmbH, short ETC, knows that for sure. They are experts when it comes to the right lighting technology for architecture, stage and television. They are responsible for the lighting design at the successful musical “The Lion King”, the Bayreuth Richard Wagner Festival, the famous Palazzo Hotel in Las Vegas and the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. High quality products and great service, those are the areas where ETC shines, and still remains humble.
„We are shaping the future of the audio industry based upon our history, cultural innovations and passion for excellence.“ That’s the philosophy of Sennheiser Electronic GmbH & Co. KG. This principle is now becoming reality. In July 2013, the long standing company from Wedemark had its ground breaking ceremony for their new Innovation Campus.
The twenty million Euro Innovation Campus will give their employees about 7000 square meters of space room for the most modern working conditions, as well as enough space for events. The opening is planned for the end of 2014.
While Prolight + Sound here is still a long ways away, the preparations for the trade fair in Shanghai are running at full speed. From October 10-13, 2013 500 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions will present their newest products at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. “The large number of international brands and exhibitors at Prolight + Sound Shanghai shows that our trade fair opens doors to enormous business opportunities in Asia,” said Fiona Chiew, assistant manager of the trade fair in Shanghai. “In addition, we have gotten feedback from the exhibitors, that they have gained valuable insights into the industry during our events and seminars.”
It is the perfect illusion that has been fascinating people since the beginning of time. First it was the magician, now it is the technological refinements at the highest level. 3D belongs to the trends of the future, as Prolight + Sound has continually shown. This find from the Bot & Dolly design studios shows another fascinating insight into three dimensional technologies.
The process is called texture mapping wherein deceptively real 3D animation can be created. The video was made as an artistic statement and technical demonstration. The creators used various technologies including large scale robotics, projection mapping and software engineering. The result is extremely impressive. Take a look for yourself!
The laser technology exhibitor, KVANT, presented a stunning show at Prolight + Sound 2013. The girls from Ladylicious performed to the electrical rhythms and showed the potential which the Slovakian manufacturer possesses. “Taking part in Prolight + Sound exhibition is the core of our exhibition calendar each year”, Dusan Navara, Sales Manager at KVANT said. “It is a regular boost for our business and we truly appreciate the opportunity to meet so many people working in the same field.” Their success is the proof in the pudding.
One of the highlights on the beyerdynamic stand at Prolight + Sound 2013 was the Custom One Pro Headphone with new design and improved technology. What is so exceptional about the headphones from beyerdynamic? Each customer has the possibility to design his own model on his own computer and then order it.
Now the Heilbronn based audio specialist is continuing with its success story. At the first worldwide Crowdsourching Design Contest, users can not only design their own headphones, but can also put them out for vote. The winner gets 1000 Euros in prize money.
Whether music albums, live events, blockbusters or TV shows, Avid is a mainstay of the video and audio industry. The software and hardware manufacturer thrilled visitors with their technologies and products at Prolight + Sound 2013.
Avid not only invests in the development of new products, but also in the promotion of young talents in the industry. Avid gifted The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, the worldwide biggest music studio on wheels, several products from the Pro Audio and Pro Video department. These included the new Pro Tools|HDX-System, the Media Composer 7 and Pro Tools 11, which were all crowd pleasers at Prolight + Sound 2013.
At the end of last week Prolight + Sound team showed you part of a picture and asked where could it have been taken. Here comes the answer. It was taken at the Moving Picture Pavilion, a joint stand which the TELTEC GmbH hosted at Prolight + Sound 2013 in exhibit hall 9. The visitors were able to get information about moving image production and distribution at the stand. Represented were companies such as Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Canon, as well as many other exhibitors. And as you can see, the newest technology was on display, next to not only an old moped, but also a small red speedster, a real eye catcher, which were used as props for the presentation.
As far as the eye could see, the newest technology could be marveled at and tested in all the exhibit halls at Prolight + Sound 2013. But an old, rickety and rusty moped is far from innovative, isn't it? Where was that? It was surely not in one of the exhibition halls, was it? Now it’s your turn; where was this picture taken? Do you know the answer? Then write away, give us your answers, tips and comments!
The soccer world championship is just around the corner and host country Brazil is bracing itself for its big debut. A total of twelve cities will host the games. One of them will be held in the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paolo, where things are running at full speed. When completed, 68,000 fans will fit in the stadium. They will not only be presented with great plays on the field, but in the true sense of the word, the arena shines. In the area of lighting design, OSRAM is setting new standards in the Arena Corinthians.
“The high tech lighting solutions go far above the stringent standards set by FIFA,” says Michael Pleuser, Vice-President of Sales & Marketing for OSRAM. Energy efficient LED and metal fume lamps light up the field with a total of 5000 Lux. In addition, it has the largest LED stadium screen, which measures 170 m x 20 m, in the world. “It is a one of a kind concept developed specifically for the customer,” Pleuser continued.
Being able to show emotions at the push of a button, that is Matt Finke’s profession. For more than twenty years, he has been giving business events, concerts and other events the right visual structure. Video and lighting are his profession. The following words prove it, “To be able to see first hand how your own concept moves people is thrilling and wonderful!”
Finke works for such companies as Audi and SAP as well as for the artists Mando Diao and Katie Melua. How does he do it? Finke doesn’t know, “I haven’t bribed anyone,” he laughs. At Prolight + Sound 2013, the Marburger resident was honoured with the Opus Award for his creative work. The prize means a lot to him, “The nominations are done secretly; you don’t know anything is going on. That’s why I was very surprised and felt extremely honoured.”
When does pedestrian congestion occur? How does it turn into pushing and shoving, and when does it become life threatening? What can visitors at mega events do to keep out of harms way and to avoid a catastrophe like the one at the Loveparade in Duisburg 2010?
Safety at mega events was extensively discussed the 1st International Event Safety Conference at Prolight + Sound 2013 and will be tackled again at the coming trade fair on March 12th 2014 from 11 am to 6 pm in the Eventplaza of the Frankfurt fair.
Booming bass, happy people, a gigantic show arrangement and more than two million watts: The Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas is not only one of the biggest, but also one of the most elaborate festivals in the USA: This year one more record was broken, the biggest stage ever built in the USA, which naturally had to be lit just right. An honor for Steinigke Showtechnic, who took the USA by storm this summer with their spotlights and lighting effects.
Behind the scenes and days before the doors to Prolight + Sound open, busy helpers scurry around the exhibition halls. Forklifts transport materials from a to b, scaffolds are built, carpets unrolled, cables laid, spotlights aligned, speakers positioned and finally the products are staged.
Every movement has to be just right; everything is exactly planned. Coordinating all of this is a huge project and is of utmost importance. It takes hours, if not days until everything is ready. However, it can all be done very quickly as this funny time lapse video edited by the show technology wholesaler B&K Braun shows. Enjoy and get ready to be amazed!
Thinking outside of the box is a well known English phrase. The Canadian audio manufacturer Adamson Systems Engineering has switched the motto and turned "outside" to "inside". Inside the box? One could think the company is not big on progress. However, the exact opposite is true. For the past thirty years the box with the biggest success is the Adamson profession.
At the end of last week, Prolight + Sound team challenged you to a little game. We showed you a picture and asked you to tell us what the picture was about. We had lots of guesses on Facebook. Chocolate marshmellows were a hot topic, but unfortunately that is wrong. One guess came quickly and was naturally correct. The photograph was taken at the Sennheiser stand and pictures the interchangeable omni capsule for the new Digital 9000 series.
In the past 70 years, Sennheiser's microphones have taken the world by storm. They are some of the most loved stage microphones. Stars such as Pink, Rihanna and Xavier Naidoo use them during their live performances. At Prolight + Sound 2013 the audio specialist from Wedemark had one of the biggest stands, at which the visitors could see and test the newest products.
Prolight + Sound team browsed its virtual photo album and found a wonderful picture reminding them of Prolight + Sound 2013. Naturally, we don’t want to keep it from you. However, we are not going to make it too easy. Using Photoshop we played with the control knobs, picked a small cut out and saved it as a new picture. Can you figure out which stand the picture is from and what is going on? We look forward to your comments!
