HG Lighting Design has developed the lighting design for productions such as the ballet “Alice in Wonderland” and the parody musical “50 Shades!”

With a growing company, Herrick Goldman, principal and founder of HG Lighting Design, views it as his social responsibility of supporting industry colleagues in hard times. In an interview with the magazine “Live Design” the light designer explained:

Our industry is unique in that we gain friends and coworkers on every gig and in every venue. These people all rely on their ability to get work and do physical labor.

In January, HG Lighting Design followed up on his promise and presented the first donation to the organization. Founded in 2006, company develops lighting design for theater, dance, corporate events, permanent exhibitions, and museums.

Two support programs

Logo Behind the ScenesBehind the Scenes supports people working in the event industry. Especially in the US, illnesses or accidents and the resulting time off can lead to financial problems. The mission of “Behind the Scenes” is to “not leave colleagues in the dark” if they have an emergency.

The organization assumes the costs with assistance including payment for basic costs of living, medical bills, transport costs, and burial costs.

The charity organization has initiated two programs, to which companies can contribute regular donations. With “Pledge-a-Product” and “Pledge-a-Service,” companies in the event industry donate a part of their fees for a certain product or service directly to “Behind the Scenes.”

Goldman’s hope for imitators was recently fulfilled: a second company, Westview Productions, which offers entertainment, energy, and immersive technology solutions, has been participating in “Pledge-a-Service” since January. The “Pledge-a-Product” partners include Prolight + Sound exhibitors TMB and Electronic Theatre Controls.
