Thinking outside of the box is a well known English phrase. The Canadian audio manufacturer Adamson Systems Engineering has switched the motto and turned "outside" to "inside". Inside the box? One could think the company is not big on progress. However, the exact opposite is true. For the past thirty years the box with the biggest success is the Adamson profession.
At the end of last week, Prolight + Sound team challenged you to a little game. We showed you a picture and asked you to tell us what the picture was about. We had lots of guesses on Facebook. Chocolate marshmellows were a hot topic, but unfortunately that is wrong. One guess came quickly and was naturally correct. The photograph was taken at the Sennheiser stand and pictures the interchangeable omni capsule for the new Digital 9000 series.
In the past 70 years, Sennheiser's microphones have taken the world by storm. They are some of the most loved stage microphones. Stars such as Pink, Rihanna and Xavier Naidoo use them during their live performances. At Prolight + Sound 2013 the audio specialist from Wedemark had one of the biggest stands, at which the visitors could see and test the newest products.
Prolight + Sound team browsed its virtual photo album and found a wonderful picture reminding them of Prolight + Sound 2013. Naturally, we don’t want to keep it from you. However, we are not going to make it too easy. Using Photoshop we played with the control knobs, picked a small cut out and saved it as a new picture. Can you figure out which stand the picture is from and what is going on? We look forward to your comments!
When spectacular light shows and outstanding sound fill the halls, when the technology elite gather, exhibit, discuss and examine the newest trends at the Frankfurt Convention Center, then it’s once again time for Prolight + Sound. From March 12th till 15th, 2014 the exhibitors at the trade fair will present the newest products from the areas of stage, light and sound, AV media technology, system integration, as well as broadcasting and recording. The motto of Prolight + Sound 2014 is “Energy for emotions”.
This year, there were more than 900 exhibitors from all over the world. 42,000 industry visitors from 114 countries attended the trade fair in Frankfurt. Can that be beaten next year? The team of Prolight + Sound is eagerly awaiting 2014 and all the exciting new products.
Technology doesn't have to just be functional, it can also be elegant. The microphone stand 26200 "Elegance" from König & Meyer is living proof. With its Red Dot Design Award 2013 the stand has automatically qualified for the German Design Prize. Now 35 products and “Elegance” are competing for the coveted trophy. The winner will be decided on September 12, 2013.
What makes this stand do special? Gabriela König of König & Meyer explains, "The microphone stand 'Elegance' distinguishes itself through its unique shape of the tubing combination. Instead of the common round tubes, it uses tubes which are trilobular in shape. On the technical side the stand offers the comfort of silent and easy height adjustment and an integrated knurled-screw that won't get lost. According to König, the base has also been completely redesigned.
Stage mechanics, light and sound - those are the themes of the Prolight and Sound. However, it is not only in the spotlight at this trade fair. Even little Lego figures know how it works. This funny video shows just how much work goes into building a stage, which most concert attendees never see. From the first truck, that brings the material for the build, followed by the tech check and finally the band's performance, everything is animated with Lego bricks and Lego figures.
For the exhibition teams of international manufacturers of event technology, the beginning of each new year means one trip after another. In spring there is not only Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt but also China and Russia lure exhibitors to their country. Then you suddenly hear, “Ni-hao!” and „привет!“ instead of a simple „Hallo“!
Since the beginning of March, many manufacturers have packed their bags and travelled to Guangzhou. The Trade Show Frankfurt has expanded its Prolight + Sound concept this year there; in turn exhibitors and visitors are celebrating the premiere in south China. After that warm up, there was the German International Fair of Technologies and Services for Events, Installation and Production.
Just 16, 15, 14 … no not days, hours! The opening of Prolight + Sound 2013 is close at hand, and we are just as happy as you are that it is finally here! Just one more nights sleep, counting down the last hours and then it’s all about the Messe Frankfurt!

Tomorrow is the big day. Prolight + Sound is starting the next season and is presenting technologies and services for events, installations and productions. So that nothing goes awry, we are going to give you a few tips to help you prepare for your visit.
A day at the trade fair can be very long, that’s why we strongly suggest you wear comfortable shoes. The convention center complex is enormous, as we have learned from past experience. It will take a lot of time to discover everything, which means you are going to be on your feet all day.
Comfortable shoes won’t help you much if you don’t know your way around the complex. We’d like to remind you once again about the convention center map, which you should always have in your pocket, or the practical app which you can have at the ready on your phone. The programme is just as important, so don’t miss one exciting minute of the action that you have put on your “to do list”!
Finally and most importantly, bring your curiosity with you! What would Prolight + Sound 2013 be without the visitors, who are fired up to see the products and want to hold the very newest innovations in their hands?

The most important thing at Prolight + Sound 2013, besides you the trade fair visitor, is of course the many, many exhibitors. It is their stands that fill the halls and allow you to gain valuable insight into the newest technology and innovations in the event industry.
Today, two days before the trade fair begins, the first manufacturers are arriving with their products in tow. Then the massive undertaking of unpacking, assembling and staging the products in the halls begins. The exhibitors look for their stands, place their highlights in the spotlight and get themselves ready for the rush. No later than the first morning of the trade fair everything is truly finished, the halls are filled and the exhibitors are ready.
However, the massive bustle really only starts that morning; when they open the trade fair doors and tens of thousands of visitors pour into the halls. We are looking forward to it!

The organizers of Prolight + Sound 2013 have made a big change this year. The hall plan, which we previously wrote about, already gave you a little hint. There will be an entirely new hall. That way even the Prolight experts among you have something new to discover at the trade fair. Hall 9.1 is titled “International Sourcing”. As the name reveals, here you will find foreign exhibitors from all over the world. They are presenting their product highlights in the area of “Lighting and Acoustics”.
The trade fair is quickly approaching, and in the few days before it starts, we want to give you some more valuable tips. This time we are not focusing on Prolight + Sound itself, rather on the city in which it is held. Frankfurt am Main does not only have a huge convention center, but also a snazzy city center with numerous restaurants and endless shopping.
In the host city the lights do not go off early, even if the doors of Prolight + Sound have long been closed for the day. So, the motto for the adventurous is “hustle and bustle here we come”!
Certainly many of you are visiting the trade fair yet again and are therefore true Prolight fans. Surely you know Prolight + Sound area like the back of your hand. Yet, this year there are some changes. Therefore, we would like to give you the new hall plan information, so that you are very well equipped and can find everything!
Prolight + Sound 2013 is once again divided into the categories: “Audio and Stage” in Hall 8.0 and “Lights and Stage” in Hall 9.0. Hall 9.1, International Sourcing, which we will explain in more detail in another blog, is new this year. Everything surrounding “Lighting and Effects” is still in Hall 11.0. The exhibitors are in their corresponding halls. Publishers, organizations and service companies are in the gallery 0 and 1.
These days there is hardly anyone who is not connected to the internet on their mobiles. Clearly Prolight + Sound 2013 is jumping on the bandwagon and is offering its visitors several services to make their visit to the trade fair more convenient and flexible. It starts at the electronic “check-in” for the exhibitors, includes the product search and uncomplicated internet access on site.
Visitors can easily buy their ticket for the trade fair using the mobile ticketing method. After a quick registration, you can buy your tickets and with the help of a link have them sent directly to your mobile. Then you can start your day at the trade fair ecofriendly and stress free.
The free app “Prolight + Sound Navigator” is just as convenient and extremely practical. With it you will have an overview of the entire trade fair programme and the location of many exhibitors right on your own Smartphone. No more searching in vain or flipping through pages!
In just a few days Prolight + Sound 2013 is starting. You are surely very anxious, and like us, excitedly awaiting three days of international trade fair! So that nothing goes wrong, we are giving you a few tips ahead of time. Today we would like to make your arrival easier. It doesn’t matter if you travel by train, with your own car, or use local transport, on the Prolight + Sound website you will find all the information you need. International visitors will not miss out either. With Lufthansa, the partner airline, you will fly safely, comfortably and inexpensively directly to the Frankfurt Airport. From there you will be at the trade fair in no time at all. The Deutsche Bahn is also offering inland visitors package deals.
So, for those of you who have not yet planned your arrival, you should quickly gather the information and grab one of the last minute offers. We are looking forward to seeing you and wish you a safe journey!
Exact and detailed planning is the key to a successful event. Often, however, this seems like a near impossible task, since the data about a location is either insufficient or even wrong. Not having all the aspects of the facility readily available make the organization even more difficult. Düsseldorf’s easyRAUM GmbH has addressed this problem and created innovative software which helps visualize event locations. In her interview in this blog, Sarah Breuer, manager of sales and online marketing, explains her solution.
Prolight + Sound would like to carry on with its ever increasing social media activities. After starting with Facebook and adding a Twitter channel last year, in 2013 PLS will tweet and post more often in order to encourage more dialogue between the exhibitors and the visitors. The activities are constantly being expanded and so that the latest news is posted with lightning speed on the World Wide Web.
Three, two, one…. surprise! In just a few days, maybe in just a few hours, we have a wonderful change planned for you. But, right now, we can only tell you this much; we are working on something ourselves and it will be modern!
This year, the Prolight+Sound will once again offer several innovations, from the new exhibit hall, the first international security conference and the moving pictures pavilion. We bloggers didn’t want to be the only ones not creating something brand new. Unfortunately, we cannot yet tell you what it is; otherwise it wouldn’t be a surprise! Hopefully we could really peak your interest.:-) Keep checking back and then you won’t miss the improvement!
