Before Disney trailers and films appear in German cinemas, the soundtracks are tested and given the final seal of approval in Disney Germany’s in-house cinema. In order to provide cinephiles with the best possible audio experience, Disney Germany needed a top-quality sound system of their own, so they turned to Alcons Audio to equip their screening room.
At the Stage Theater at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, dreams learn how to break down barriers. “Behind the Horizon” (Hinter dem Horizont), the hit muscial from Udo Lindenberg no longer enthuses with its emotional story alone, but also with excellent sound. In the process of switching from a Dolby Surround 7.1 system to Dolby Atmos, after nearly 17 years in operation the old system platform was replaced with Q-Sys from QSC.
Howard Harrison, lighting director of the musical City of Angels, was faced with a challenge: the lighting had to do justice to black and white ‘film scenes’ - and also vividly colourful ‘real life’ scenes. He opted to use ETC’s colour-change capable Source Four LED Series 2 spots.
The Musiktheater Linz caused a real buzz at Prolight + Sound 2014 Theatre and Film Colloquium. Why? Its revolving stage, operational for a year now, makes it one of the most modern and technologically best-equipped theatres in the world. For everyone who wasn’t able to make the presentation at Messe Frankfurt, here’s another chance to find out about this technological masterpiece.
The project was carried out by Austrian steel engineering specialists Waagner-Biro. “Our stage technology department has proved beyond doubt that it can deliver the biggest technical challenges to plan,” said Rudolf Estermann.
In order to develop innovative new products, Sennheiser has been conducting audiological research for more than 40 years. The audio specialists, based in Wedemark, Germany, introduce their latest products every year at Prolight + Sound. One product that is guaranteed to be making an appearance in Messe Frankfurt in 2015 is Sennheiser’s very latest piece of cutting-edge technology: CinemaConnect. Audio experts Sennheiser see this novel live-streaming system as an opportunity to make culture accessible to everyone. Exactly how it will work was demonstrated just recently in Hamburg’s Abaton cinema.
The way CinemaConnect works is simplicity itself: cinemagoers connect to a specially set up WiFi network via a free smartphone app. Live-streaming gives them real-time access to additional soundtracks for visual descriptions or assistive listening, making it possible to experience the film via headphones.
Since cloud covered mountains, iced landscapes or overgrown sheer rock walls, needed for film, TV and stage productions, are not always readily available outside your front door, nor do they grow on stage, you need alternatives. Professionals can create deceivingly real scenery- detailed all the way to the tip of the conifer.
