Created by Christopher Bauder and Studio WHITEvoid, Dark Matter is a journey through a parallel world of light, space and sound. The 2023 “Sinus – Systems Integration Award” winning show takes place in a former factory site and offers visitors a journey through seven immersive worlds brought to life by light installations, kinetic elements, projection mapping and 3D sound. The award ceremony will take place on 27 April 2023 during Prolight + Sound, the trade fair for the event and entertainment technology industry.
“Dark Matter” combines the real and digital worlds
Since 2021, the exhibition in the south-east of Berlin has combined light, movement and sound in luminous shapes and colours over an area of 1000 m². The multimedia installations range from small light compositions to room-filling audiovisual shows with 3D sound systems. Each room offers its own atmosphere and is part of the overall experience.
At the first station, “Liquid Sky”, visitors are immersed in a sea of light dots. In “Inverse”, 169 black spherical elements come to life against a bright background. “Circular” shows an interplay between unity and individuality through three rings of light. “Bonfire” offers a contemplative atmosphere with a virtual campfire. “Polygon Playground” is a 360° projection that reacts to visitor movements. “Grid” illustrates the merging of the digital and the physical through spatial sculpture, kinetics, light and music. At “Tonleiter”, visitors can create sound worlds themselves.
“Dark Matter” sets new standards in the combination of artistic ambitions and innovative technologies. The exhibition is developed as a living organism and includes constantly changing installations.
Expert jury chooses Dark Matter as the winner
The Sinus Award is one of the most prestigious prizes in audiovisual installation and has been an integral part of Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt since 2004. The event is organised by the Association for Media and Event Technology (VPLT), the European Association of Event Centres (EVVC) and Messe Frankfurt. An expert jury consisting of industry experts, representatives of associations and the media as well as representatives of Messe Frankfurt jointly selected “Dark Matter” as the winner.
