The Berlin Gasometer in Schöneberg is a landmark visible from afar and a symbol of the capital’s transition from industrial culture to forward-looking innovation. Where gas was once stored, a space has now been created where the energy transition, sustainability, and cutting-edge event technology come together. The Gasometer forms part of the EUREF Campus, a hub for businesses, research institutions and start-ups focusing on energy, mobility and climate protection.
At the same time, the gasometer was converted into a state-of-the-art event location in Berlin, equipped with technology from leading brands such as Martin, MA Lighting, Major and L-Acoustics. The project sets new standards for sustainable events and offers an impressive example of how tradition and innovation can intertwine in the event industry.
The Berlin Gasometer as a symbol of the energy transition
Built in 1913, the round gasometer in Berlin-Schöneberg served as a gas storage facility for many decades. It has been a listed monument since 1994. The EUREF Campus’s renovation and repurposing of the building sent a clear signal for sustainable construction.
The building now meets the KfW Efficiency House 55 standard, incorporating smart energy management systems that enable climate-neutral operation. The Gasometer will soon be home to over 2,000 Deutsche Bahn employees, as the infrastructure division is relocating its corporate headquarters to the landmark building.
This makes the Gasometer a beacon of the energy transition, both architecturally and in terms of its content. Events held here take place in an environment that visibly embodies sustainability and innovation.
Architecture meets industrial heritage
The combination of old and new architecture is particularly fascinating. The outer steel framework of the gasometer has been completely preserved, ensuring that its industrial past is always visible. Inside, a cutting-edge building with a glass façade has been constructed, providing office and event spaces across multiple levels.
The central component is the Forum, a multifunctional event space that can be used for conferences, meetings, cultural events and corporate events. This is complemented by various business and club areas, flexible gallery spaces, and a spectacular Sky Lounge located around 66 metres above ground level. From the Sky Lounge, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree view of Berlin. This, combined with the extraordinary architecture, flexible event spaces and modern technology, makes it a unique event location in the capital.
The architecture is therefore not just a backdrop; it is an active part of the event experience. By combining industrial culture with contemporary comfort, the Gasometer becomes a space with a unique character.
An overview of the latest event technology
The gasometer’s technical equipment was deliberately implemented to the highest standard. Systems from renowned suppliers are used that are well-known in the events industry for their quality and reliability.
Lighting technology from Martin
Lighting is provided by the Martin MAC Aura PXL, the MAC Viper XIP and the Exterior Linear Pro Graze Quad, to name a few. These devices enable atmospheric room lighting and creative light shows with eye-catching effects. This enables the forum to be staged individually depending on the event, ranging from serious business events to emotional stage shows.

Lighting control with MA Lighting
Control is provided by the grandMA3 system from MA Lighting. This consists of two grandMA3 light consoles (one permanently installed and one mobile) and a grandMA3 Processing Unit L. The system operates in multi-user mode, meaning several operators can access the same setup simultaneously.
Further information about the product family can be obtained directly from MA Lighting.
Power and signal distribution from the major.
One particular highlight is the immersive audio system from L-Acoustics. Using L-ISA technology, it creates a spatial sound image that draws the audience right into the heart of the action.
The setup comprises five loudspeaker arrays, each containing four A10 Focus loudspeakers and one A10 Wide loudspeaker. There are also two central clusters of KS21 subwoofers. Ten 5XT loudspeakers are used as front fills to complement the system. This setup produces a precise, even sound image in a room with challenging acoustics due to its round shape.
You can find a detailed report on this at L-Acoustics.
A venue with a future
The Gasometer is not just an event venue; it is a flagship project for the events industry. Its sustainable architecture, innovative technology and flexible room concepts make it an attractive location for both national and international events.
From conferences for large corporations to cultural performances and political summits, the Gasometer offers the perfect infrastructure. Its combination of sustainable building standards, modern facilities and a unique atmosphere inspires both guests and event organisers alike.
Once again, Berlin is positioning itself as a leading city in the field of modern event concepts and sustainable venues.
