At Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt, a relatively young but highly experienced company presented a solution that sets new standards in the world of stage automation: SCALA Stage Systems & Services GmbH unveiled the ScalaOne control system – the modern answer to increasing safety and efficiency requirements in event and theatre technology.
Bosch Rexroth becomes SCALA: expertise meets innovation
SCALA Stage Systems is much more than just a newcomer. The company, based in Castrop-Rauxel, was founded in 2023, but grew out of an established network of experts with decades of experience in stage technology – particularly with regard to Bosch Rexroth systems. Numerous previous Rexroth projects are now being managed by SCALA, including well-known theatres and opera houses throughout Europe.
We focus on good service. In our industry, it is often the case that companies complete a project and then are never seen again. We don’t want to operate like that; we want to be there for our customers even after a project has been completed.
Oliver Brück, COO SCALA stage systems & services GmbH
SCALA combines mechanical, hydraulic and electrical expertise in one company and offers complete turnkey solutions – from design and installation to maintenance. At the heart of the company is the newly developed ScalaOne control system, which was presented to a wide audience of industry professionals at Prolight + Sound in Hall 12.0.
ScalaOne: The new benchmark for control and safety
The ScalaOne system is the direct successor to the proven SYB 3.0 from Bosch Rexroth – but with significant enhancements in terms of safety, operation and scalability. The control system is SIL3-certified (Safety Integrity Level 3) and therefore meets the highest functional safety requirements, as demanded in theatres and opera houses in particular.
The user interface has been completely redesigned and is based on modern UX principles: touch operation, visual display of all movement sequences and intuitive workflows enable comfortable and safe working – even under time pressure during a performance or rehearsal. ScalaOne can be adapted on a modular basis, for example for stage systems of different sizes or cruise ship theatres, which SCALA also equips.
Prolight + Sound 2025: ScalaOne in action
At Prolight + Sound 2025, SCALA took advantage of the international stage to demonstrate the new control system live. At stand E10 in hall 12.0, visitors experienced how complex stage movements can be controlled with ScalaOne – such as lifting, swivelling and driving movements in the upper machinery or precise movement sequences in the understage.
Particular attention was paid to user safety: ScalaOne automatically detects misalignments, critical loads or movement limits being exceeded and responds with defined safety procedures. The system remains controllable in real time at all times – an important advantage over older control systems.

Target group: Theatre, opera, cruise ships – worldwide
SCALA’s ScalaOne is aimed at operators of theatres, opera houses, town halls, concert halls and entertainment ships. In addition to its technical capabilities, the company scores highly with its comprehensive range of services: project planning, manufacturing, commissioning and long-term maintenance services are all offered from a single source – worldwide.
Current reference projects include the Gothenburg Opera, the Burgtheater in Vienna and the National Theatre in Budapest. SCALA also takes over existing installations – especially those with Bosch Rexroth systems – and modernises them or migrates them completely to ScalaOne.
Continuity and reliability in transformation
What makes SCALA special is the bridge it builds between proven technology and state-of-the-art system architecture. Many of the leading minds behind SCALA previously worked at Bosch Rexroth or are familiar with the stage automation solutions used there down to the smallest detail. This creates trust – especially with theatres that think long-term and invest in generations of performances.
We may only have been around for two years, but we have 20 to 30 years of experience in the industry.
Oliver Brück, COO SCALA stage systems & services GmbH
With ScalaOne, SCALA now offers not only a technical successor to SYB 2.5/3.0, but also a future perspective for venues that rely on consistent safety, modularity and ease of use.
ScalaOne – a control system for the next generation of stages
SCALA Stage Systems’ appearance at Prolight + Sound was more than just a product presentation. It was a clear sign that the next generation of stage technology will not only be safer, but also more user-friendly and flexible.
ScalaOne is a new control system that combines the best of Rexroth’s long-standing tradition with modern technical possibilities. For all venues looking to invest in the future of their stage technology, ScalaOne is a solution designed for safety, sustainability and efficiency – perfectly in line with the professional live entertainment of tomorrow.
