After a two-year break, Prolight + Sound will set an example for the successful #restart of the event industry from 26 to 29 April 2022. Around 100 companies and exhibitors want to set a strong signal for the event industry together with the industry event for entertainment technology at Messer Frankfurt.A premiere this year will be the “Green Event Day” – for the responsible use of natural resources. There will also be special areas and special presentation formats at the fair.
We firmly believe in the social value of personal encounters – also and especially in the turbulent times we live in. For more than 25 years, Prolight + Sound has been an important and reliable driving force for the global event industry. Together with the industry, it is dedicated to bringing people together, creating positive community experiences and emotions. We are looking forward to a strong signal for the successful #restart of the event industry. And we are especially looking forward to a great reunion here in Frankfurt!

The future is green
In the last two years, despite the many restrictions and economic constraints, the event industry has set important processes on the path to a green future. The responsible use of natural resources is playing a role in event planning more than ever before.
So this year, for the first time, there will be a theme day all about sustainability in the event sector with the Green Event Day. On 27 April, special lectures, keynote speeches and panel discussions will take place. Experts from the industry will report on the current state of the industry, what goals are planned for the coming years and pass on concrete solutions and measures for implementation to the audience.
Representatives from technology and service companies, manufacturers, venues and transport will be present. The keynote address will be given by futurologist Oliver Leisse, owner of the “See More” agency and host of the podcast “Future, Trends & Strategies”.
The skilled workers of tomorrow
The search for qualified personnel in the event industry has intensified in the past two years. In a recent interview, the VPLT highlighted the problems the industry is currently facing in terms of skilled staff.
For this reason, the Future Hub at Prolight + Sound will, for the first time, be an area where young professionals can receive offers and make contacts with companies in the industry.
There will be four areas for this purpose:
- Start-up Area – start-up companies in the event industry will show their innovative strength here
- Career Centre – companies offer their vacancies
- Campus – Colleges, universities and academies that offer special courses with an event focus will present themselves here
- Networking Lounge – Here you can make contacts, talk shop and discuss.
This area is powered 100% by green electricity and is made from recyclable materials.
The Re-Start will be sonorous
New special areas and presentation formats as a new mainstay of Prolight + Sound will strengthen the audio section of the fair.
For the premiere of the Performance + Production Hub, visitors will experience 4 days of audio tools and lots of educational events. Well-known exhibitors such as Ableton, LD-Systems and Tascam will show the latest products in the field of hardware and software solutions.
The Music Production Corner will be a central contact point for producers. News about digital audio workstations, recording tools, room acoustics and more can be discovered in this area.
On the Show Stage, top-class artists will give the audience an impression of what is possible with digital live performances such as live beatmaking, finger drumming, controllerism and syntablism. In Jam Boxes, audio enthusiasts can test new sound tools such as music apps, DJ hardware and modular synthesizers and improvise together in open sessions. In the Studio Village, manufacturers of microphones, signal processors, monitoring solutions, recording interfaces and other products for professional sound studios will present themselves. In the Studio Lab workshop area, there will be separate rooms for seminars and product demonstrations by the individual exhibitors. The well-known Live Sound Arena on the outdoor area of the fair will allow visitors to experience the sound of large PA systems.
What’s new in theatre and stage technology?
The theatre and stage technology section will again be one of the pillars of Prolight + Sound this year. Exhibitors from all areas of stage technology, such as upper and lower machinery, platforms, stands, lifting equipment, automation and curtain technology, as well as special lighting and sound control consoles for use in theatres, will be represented.
In the Theatre + Light Stage area, experts will speak on topics such as digitalisation, sustainability and spectacular show technology for stage use. Visitors will learn how to illuminate venues in an energy-efficient way or how to create breathtaking 3D visual effects with the help of special projection materials.
Expert knowledge in compact form at Prolight + Sound
As in the past, Prolight + Sound offers a top-class lecture programme on all four days of the fair. Exchange ideas, share your experiences and challenges with each other.
Particularly in view of the ongoing Corona crisis, the Prolight + Sound Conference will provide an overview of the current state of the industry and offer assistance for business development after the crisis. At the International Event Safety Conference on 27 April, experts will give practical tips for safe event operations. The main topics include ventilation and hygiene concepts, crowd management and current standards in occupational safety and health.
