Presenting your own light show to a large audience? Now this is possible for young lighting designers at the 1st SGM New Talent Award. For the first time, the successful provider of professional lighting technology, SGM Germany, is looking for the most creative and best young talents in event lighting design.
Winners selected by four-person jury
A production’s success depends not only on the performance or the sound, but also the right light. That’s why lighting designers need a good eye for the right effects at the right time. At first annual SGM New Talents Award, beginning lighting designers have the opportunity to present their light show to a renowned jury as well as at the finals in Cologne and win attractive prizes.
Lighting designer legend Jerry Appelt, who has already designed the light shows for the Eurovision Song Contest and the PRG LEA stage at Prolight + Sound will be one of the four jury memberse. Michael Biwer, Division Manager / Group Show Director at Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH and Director of Prolight + Sound, will also evaluate the entries. In addition to Appelt and Biewer, the jury will consist of Michael Herweg, Managing Partner of SGM Deutschland, and Tom Becker, Publisher of DieReferenz.de.
Finals in the SGM showroom
With this award, SGM Germany aims to give young and less experienced lighting designers the opportunity to have their work evaluated by a top-class jury. In order to participate in the SGM New Talent Award, prospective lighting designers must register at https://sgm-new-talents-award.de/.
They can then send in a 3 to 5 minute visualization or a video and a list of the equipment used in the design. Last but not least, the jury needs a short curriculum vitae.
The deadline for entries is October 31st. The three finalists will be announced by November 8th. The final will take place on the 23rd in the framework of the SGM OPEN DAYS from SGM Germany. Here the participants present a specially programmed show for the same song.
The prizes include a 13″MacBook Air, 1.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 processor, 128 GB SSD memory plus a “Symphony” license for the powerful visualization software from CAPTURE and SGM Dry-Hire jetons.
