The innovative bit of kit has a 5-port ethernet switch as well as AES3 inputs and can feed up to 16 AES3 channels over the Dante audio transport protocol.
d&b audiotechnik: Continuous Improvement
The DS10 has a number of tricks up its sleeve that sound engineers can profit from, including multiple output channels from the console to the amplifiers running over just a single network cable. Audio signals are split to d&b amplifiers’ AES3 inputs over the DS10. This innovation holds out the promise of easier diagnostics and greater ease of use. Metadata – channel labels, for example, and cabling information – is also transmitted from the DS10 to the amplifiers via the AES3 signal.
The new product can also be used as a break in box at front of house, as well as offering a bypass mode. This can be used to turn the DS10 into an AES3 splitter. The four AES3 input channels can also be outputted to any AES3 output, making the DS10 much more than just an interface between the Dante Audio Network and d&b amplifiers.
The wide-range power supply comes equipped with surge protection up to 400V and is compatible with 100-240V and 50-60Hz power supplies. Audio as well as remote control data can run over a single network cable. The integrated 5-port ethernet switch makes connecting to a primary and a redundant network possible as well as allowing external devices to be connected. Hooking up a laptop is simplicity itself, and the laptop can be used to access the d&b Remote Network as well as operating the amplifier using R1 remote control software.
d&b continue to work on the signal chain, with the signal coming direct from the console and all processing taking place within the amplifier. Combining speed and flexibility, the DS10 seems to offer a truly innovative solution for the seamless interoperation of d&b systems and Dante-enabled devices.
