At Prolight + Sound 2018 the distributor for lighting and stage technology, LMP, will be an exhibitor. Marc Petzold reveals in an interview why a visit to the fair will be worthwhile.
1. LMP is considered one of the most successful distributors of lighting technology. What do you think are the key competitive advantages LMP has over other companies in the relevant market?
Taking on the American brand ELATION Profession, we were able to greatly increase our palette of products. In addition, in recent years we have expanded the offering of LITECRAFT LED spotlights and products that are unavailable from any of our partners. In particular, I am thinking of the BlackBox.crmx, which facilitates the wireless DMX, even if the spotlight isn’t set up for it. Last but not least, we have positioned ourselves in the aluminum segment with LITECRAFT TRUSS. LMP is a competent contact partner when it comes to competent solutions for lighting and rigging.
2. How has the industry changed since the beginning of your production? What potential is there in this area?
The industry is very dynamic. We experience increasingly brief product cycles and high innovation pressure. This corresponds with our clients’ desire for long-term planning security. The potential for conflict is clear: on the one hand being consistent and available for a long time, on the other hand, the need for constant technical development. With LITECRAFT we have intentionally increased product cycles in order to facilitate subsequent purchases by investors. It can fundamentally be stated that the market appears to be increasingly saturated.
3. What significance does Prolight + Sound have as a trade fair for event technology?
For us as a German company, Prolight + Sound is still the most important trade fair. Nowhere else do we reach so many clients and potential customers in such a short amount of time. Nevertheless, we still have to see the effort put into the trade fair in relation to the results. The rest of the year determines how successful Prolight + Sound was for us.
Naturally, it will be possible to experience a whole series of advances at LMP City. With the LS-1 from WORK, we present an innovative lighting control console that asserts itself above all competitors through its easy operation, but also the number of outputs in contrast to a very interesting price. In addition, WORK will be presenting several lifts that have already been registered for patents, and already fulfill the DIN 56950 in place in Germany. This will surely also be an interesting topic for many visitors. E
LATION Professional is coming to Frankfurt with many innovations that can also been viewed at the LMP stand. On the one hand there are the compact moving lights Dartz 360 and Smarty Hybrid. On the other hand, the successful Artiste series with the Artiste Picasso and the Artiste Dali – the latter with award-winning, novel LED laser phosphor engine – has received promising addition. Outdoor fitness will also be a big topic in view of the upcoming open-air season. With Proteus Beam and Proteus Hybrid, ELATION shows two IP 65 certified Movinglights without compromise. In the white light area, we will be showing, among other things, the new KL Fresnel series from ELATION, which guarantees high-quality, camera-ready white light. A visit to the LMP City is well worth it!
