Winners of the Opus Award 2024
The “FALLING | IN LOVE” Grand Show at Berlin’s Friedrichs-Palast was honoured with the prestigious Opus – German Stage Award. The spectacular show tells the story of a deaf poet searching for love and impresses with visual fireworks curated by star designer Jean Paul Gaultier. Over 100 artists from 28 countries worked on the elaborate production, which stands out thanks to technical innovations and a co-operation with Swarovski. For the first time, deaf dancers were used on stage, who were able to feel the music with the help of a vibration plate to perfect their performances. Ensemble Modern received the special “Opus AVantgarde” award for their sound installation “Walkable Sound Body” at the cresc Biennale 2023. This innovative installation allowed the audience to move freely in the space and experience the music immersively through a 3D audio installation. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology and a collaboration with sound director Norbert Ommer, a unique listening experience was created that pushed the boundaries of the traditional concert experience.
Winner of the Opus Award 2023
In 2023, the Pandaemonium at the Staatstheater Kassel received the coveted award. It impressed with an innovative spatial concept that integrates the audience into the action. The team led by Florian Lutz, Director of Staatstheater Kassel, also successfully explored new forms of use and play in the theatre. The Pandaemonium thus symbolises the forward-looking approach to the challenges of the coronavirus crisis.
Winner of the Opus Award 2022
The first winner of the Opus 2022 was the “Dionysos Stadt Open Air”, which in summer 2021, with a lot of courage and an impressive backdrop, made art and cultural experiences possible for a larger audience in compliance with all restrictions. The creators of the project “Woodkid @ ZDF Magazin Royal” broke new technical ground by making a virtue out of necessity and creating a completely new augmented reality experience. This extraordinary TV event was honoured by the jury with the newly created “Opus AVantgard”. This prize honours works outside of the classic stage performance that illustrate current technological or staging trends in a forward-looking way.
