When a classic reinvents itself, it’s worth listening. With the new BlacklineQ series, Martin Audio is launching a completely revised generation of passive loudspeakers on the market that rely on state-of-the-art acoustic technology, high flexibility and well thought-out design. The result: nine sophisticated speaker solutions – including powerful two-way systems, elegant column speakers and deeply tuned subwoofers – designed for both mobile setups and fixed installations.
BlacklineQ: the evolution of a classic series
For over 25 years, the name Blackline has been synonymous with professional speaker solutions at an affordable price. Whether DJs, event technicians or installation companies, Martin Audio has covered numerous applications worldwide with the previous BlacklineX series. However, the requirements for modern sound reinforcement solutions have changed: Today, not only excellent sound is needed, but also maximum flexibility in terms of installation, control and integration. At the same time, they need to be visually unobtrusive and acoustically precise. BlacklineQ fulfils all of these requirements and, with the Differential Dispersion™ technology developed by Martin Audio and used for the first time in this class, is a real innovation in both the point source two-way systems and the new column speakers.
“BlacklineQ is our most ambitious range in Blackline’s history, and with the introduction of Differential Dispersion technology and column speakers, it is destined to be our most successful.”
Dom Harter, Managing Director
The result: a particularly even sound distribution with focussed projection into the rear audience area and at the same time a wide, seamless coverage in the front area. A slight downward angle in the horn also means that more high-frequency energy is not reflected into ceilings or walls, but directed to where it is really needed: the audience. The result is a precise, clear sound over the entire area – less sound loss, more control. And all this with enormous versatility: whether mobile or permanently installed, in theatres, conference centres, clubs, places of worship or on stage – the BlacklineQ series is at home everywhere.
Differences to the BlacklineX series
Even if the name sounds similar: The BlacklineQ series is not a simple further development of the BlacklineX models, but a complete new start. The most important differences:
Feature | BlacklineX | BlacklineQ |
---|---|---|
Horn technology | Standard CD horn | Differential Dispersion™ |
Column speaker | not available | QC26, QC44 new |
Design | functional | in love with detail, flexible |
Application | above all live sound | Live & installation |
Subwoofer cabling | conventional | Top link-out at the top |
This makes it clear: with BlacklineQ, Martin Audio is positioning itself in an expanded market segment and now also offers solutions for optically sensitive areas of application.
The BlacklineQ product range at a glance
The BlacklineQ series consists of nine passive loudspeakers, which can be divided into three categories:
Two-way point source speakers: Q8, Q10, Q12, Q15
The enclosures of the full-range speakers are made of symmetrically moulded, multi-angle wood and offer a rotatable differential dispersion horn that is suitable for both horizontal and vertical applications. The ergonomic handles are made of recycled ABS plastic and allow comfortable handling without disturbing the clear design. A screw-on steel grille with textile backing reliably protects the drivers while allowing easy access for maintenance or servicing.
Whether as a front PA, delay line, stage monitor or in permanently installed setups – the models can be used flexibly. Transit protective covers and a variety of mounting options such as wall brackets, yokes, eyebolt suspensions and stand flanges allow easy integration into almost any environment. A concealable tripod connection ensures a tidy appearance in installations.
Column Speaker: QC26, QC44
The two two-way passive column speakers QC26 and QC44 have a compact design and are characterised by an elegant geometry that makes them ideal for discreet use. For the first time in this class, Martin Audio is using the proven Differential Dispersion Horn technology, which ensures even sound distribution and optimum speech intelligibility. The speakers are available in a choice of black or white lacquer finish, allowing them to blend harmoniously into architecturally sensitive environments. With their combination of technical sophistication and unobtrusive design, they mark Martin Audio’s entry into the column speaker segment. They offer a balanced sound image for both speech and music transmission, making them ideal for applications in conference rooms, places of worship or stylishly designed catering establishments. As with the other models in the series, transport protection and comprehensive mounting options are also included. A concealable stand flange also ensures a clean appearance for permanently installed applications.
Subwoofers: Q210 (2×10″), Q118 (1×18″), Q218 (2×18″)
The subwoofers of the BlacklineQ series – Q210, Q118 and Q218 – are equipped with an efficient slot-port architecture that minimises airborne noise while ensuring extended low-frequency performance. The robust cabinets are made of high-quality plywood and are designed for tough use in the touring and installation sector. An integrated M20 flange (35 mm) allows direct stand connection to all tops in the series. The link-out socket on the top of the subwoofer is particularly practical, allowing clean cabling when using a stand. The Q210 is also available in an optional white finish and can therefore be perfectly matched to the white column speakers. The subwoofers thus form an integral part of the BlacklineQ system architecture and ensure a powerful, controlled bass foundation in combination with the respective tops.
Differential dispersion: more sound, less dispersion loss
A real highlight of the BlacklineQ series is the Differential Dispersion™ technology, which was previously only used in the higher-priced series from Martin Audio. What makes it special: Unlike conventional horns, this design ensures asymmetrical dispersion – a narrower angle closer to the speaker and a wider angle further away. The result is an even sound distribution, with less energy being lost to the ceiling and floor. This technology offers enormous advantages, especially in difficult room acoustics or with a large audience.
The new column speakers also benefit from this technology, making them truly exceptional in their class.
Intelligent design for maximum flexibility
The demands placed on modern speaker systems are high – especially in the event and installation sector. The BlacklineQ series therefore offers numerous intelligent design solutions:
- Mounting versatility: Wall brackets, U-bolts, eyebolts, stand flanges – all enclosures are prepared for various mounting methods.
- Coverable connections: A practical pole mount cover hides unused mounting points and ensures a clean design.
- Top-Link-Out on the subwoofer: The connection to a top unit on a stand is made discreetly from above – no cable clutter.
- Rugged workmanship: Powder-coated metal grille, hard-wearing textured paint, weatherproof wood – ideal for everyday touring.
Sustainability and material awareness
Martin Audio is also breaking new ground in terms of environmental awareness with the BlacklineQ series:
- Recycled ABS plastic for handles: Reduction of CO2 emissions by up to 90 % per kg of material
- Pure cardboard packaging: No more plastic or foam inserts
The range also sets an example in terms of sustainability – without compromising on durability or functionality.
The BlacklineQ series offers professional sound
The Martin Audio BlacklineQ series is far more than just a facelift of the well-known BlacklineX line. It brings technological advances such as differential dispersion technology to a new price class, expands the range to include column speakers and impresses with practical details. Sound dispersion is targeted and efficient, with clear high frequencies and powerful bass reproduction.
Thanks to its sophisticated design, mounting flexibility and sustainable choice of materials, BlacklineQ is ideal for both mobile sound reinforcement and fixed installations. Anyone looking for a high-quality passive loudspeaker system that combines sound quality, flexibility and environmental awareness should definitely consider BlacklineQ.
